Businessman Hangwani Morgan Maumela has filed a rescission application to stop the final seizure of his luxury assets, which delays the sale of his R70 million Sandton home.

The NPA told the Sunday Times it received the application on Friday and is expediting its response. In July, the Johannesburg High Court granted the NPA’s Asset Forfeiture Unit a final forfeiture order worth about R325 million, covering properties, four Lamborghinis, a Bentley, a boat and a trailer.

The NPA says proceeds will go into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account and be ringfenced for the Gauteng Department of Health. The order follows investigations into alleged tender fraud and corruption at Tembisa Hospital between 2019 and 2022.
